Jim L. Butcher, CMT, Director PSoM Program Facilitator
Jim attended Phillips School of Massage and graduated in 2001. After his certification his curiosity and exploration of the benefits of massage led him to study the body energetically learning, practicing and integrating modalities including Acupressure, Qi Gong, Jyn Shin Juytsu®, Reiki and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In his private practice he aspired to help others experience the benefits of touch. As part of the PSoM teaching staff, Jim continues to help others experience the benefits of massage in a new capacity. Jim is core facilitator for CMT2 - Massage Professional Training and CMT3 - Comprehensive Studies Programs.
Judy Phillips, CMT, Founder Retired December 2007
As principle instructor of the PSoM massage therapy courses (1983-2007), Judy facilitated personal growth with groups and individuals through massage, meditation and intuitive development. Through her compassionate, playful nature, wise and generous spirit and wealth of knowledge in the healing arts, Judy nurtured a joyful and positive atmosphere for learning and growth for thousands of grateful students thoughout her career. The current programs taught at Phillips School of Massage reflect Judy’s ability to intuitively express her vision of the beauty and wisdom of the work she loves and shares with others. Judy resides in Nevada City, is enjoying good health in her retirement, traveling and sharing joyful moments with close friends and family.
Diana is a 2006 Graduate of Phillips School of Massage and a professional bodyworker since 1997. Her advanced training at the school guided her through a personal transformation and a professional revitalization. Her deep appreciation for the core values taught in the PSoM massage program inspired an increased involvement in the school. Today Diana is an integral part of the PSoM teaching staff. Diana is a core instructor for the IMT - Introduction to Massage and CMT1 - Massage Practitioner Training Programs.
Michelle is a 2005 Graduate of Phillips School of Massage and owner/operator of a successful private massage studio in Grass Valley, CA. She attended California State University Sacramento as a business major prior to her PSoM Massage Certification. Her background as a bodyworker encompasses Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reiki, Tui Na, Acupressure and Reflexology. Michelle combines her enthusiasm and clinical knowledge of bodywork to inspire students of the Evening IMT - Introduction to Massage and Evening CMT1 - Massage Practitioner Training Programs.
Jeanne presents an exploration of the meridian system, applied kinesiology and body reflexes as an approach to understanding anatomy and physiology. A practicing chiropractor and applied kinesiologist since 1981, Jeanne is a member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology and the International Foundation for Homeopathy.
Lisa trained at the Rolf Institute in 2001 - 2002 after decades of experience in other bodywork and movement modalities. She participated in Rodney Yee’s first yoga teacher training program in 1996-97 and currently teaches an ongoing yoga class plus workshops in Yoga for Back Problems at Wild Mountain Yoga Center in Nevada City. Most recently, she completed a Pilates training at Turning Point Studios in 2004 and studied regularly with Hubert Godard, Dean of Dance and Movement Analysis at the University of Paris and Rolf Movement Instructor at The Rolf Institute.
Lisa hated her first several (dry and academic) classes in anatomy, but has grown increasingly fascinated by the subject over the years. As someone who loves to teach and hates boring classes, she enjoys discovering ways to breath life into the study of bone and muscle.
Edy Britts has a Master's degree in psychiatric nursing and over 20 years' experience as a practitioner and teacher of intuitive development. The focus of her class is to help students develop their intuition and self-awareness.
Jim is a certified yoga instructor, a Chi Kung and shiatsu massage teacher and a certified hypnotherapist.
He has been leading inspiring, informative, and fun workshops since 1992. He teaches at Esalen Institute, is a long time staff member and senior instructor at Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, CA, and a natural health educator at the University of California. He has taught seniors, children, and high risk teenagers, the chronically ill and the vibrantly healthy, corporate hot shots in Silicon Valley and villagers in foreign countries.
Jim is currently working on a series of instructional videos, is a member of a theater improv troupe, a plublished photographer and the past owner of a successful vegetarian restaurant in New Zealand.
Natalie has studied in India and Nepal and apprenticed in massage in Kathmandu as well as in Kerala, India. She is a graduate of the Himalayan Institute in Kathmandu and the American Institute of Vedic Studies in the U.S. Her Ayurvedic Principles Guide, a reference chart, summarizes Ayurvedic constitutional health care. She teaches and practices throughout the U.S.
Topics include history and science of aromatherapy and how to design your own aromatherapy massage oil. Kathi also offers a continuing education Aromatherapy workshop. A practicing therapist for over 25 years, she is the author of six books including: Aromatherapy, A Complete Guide To The Healing Art; Pocket Guide to Aromatherapy; Herbs for Health and Healing
A 1987 PSM graduate, Robin has taught introductory through advanced massage classes since 1990. She is also a Certified Conscious Embodiment Instructor. Her interests in somatic exploration and healing include Aikido, dance, breathwork, voice and sound and movement for musicians. Robin integrates her broad spectrum of experience in the healing and expressive arts in her bodywork and teaching.
A graduate of the PSM class of 1989, Madlyn has focused her practice on therapeutic bodywork. Her training includes classes in Traeger, Orthobionomy, Lomi-lomi, Deep Tissue Neuromuscular, Myofascial Releasing and Crainiosacral technique. Working in conjunction with both a chiropractor and osteopath has provided excellent opportunity for therapeutic massage. She has also taught anatomy at the Fort Worth School of Massage.
Mary has a private psychotherapy practice in which she specializes in healing trauma. Because of her expertise in this area, she has been contracted by the Veterans Administration for the past 12 years to work with combat veterans. In addition to her formal education, Mary has studied with indigenous healers in North, Central, and South America. In her work she is able to integrate new discoveries pertaining to brain functions with the ancient wisdom of indigenous elders.
Robin Varga earned
her Full Reflexology Certification from the American Academy of Reflexology
many years ago. She has been personally trained by Bill Flocco as an instructor
of the "Flocco Method - integrating Foot, Hand, Ear Reflexology,"
and has been teaching classes in various parts of Northern California
for many years. Robin's enthusiasm combined with a full time practice
in the Bay area gives her a rich range of experience to help your learning
be enjoyable, practical and deeply rewarding.
Bradley graduated from PSM in 1989, began his student assistantship the fall of 1989, completed a PSM Instructor's Apprenticeship Training in 1997 and has been an instructor since 1998. In 1993, he completed instruction in Somatic Education at the Lomi School in Sonoma County, California, as a Lomi Associate.
Jeffrey brings forth a divine synthesis of techniques and experience into his sharings. Professionally trained as a Voice and Sound Healer, Massage Therapist, Yoga Instructor, Life Force Food Guide, EDGU Trainer, Breathworker and more, Jeffrey shares the full experience of transformation and channels the most expansive experience to each moment for each student. Since 2001 he has led retreats, trained yoga teachers and sound healers, enabled others to be acupressurists and breathworkers.
